What Our Students Say

How outstanding is the education received at TS Technical College? Let our students speak for themselves.

We have been pleased with both the special on-site training for PMH and PM3 certification in Thunder Bay, a year ago, as well as the PM3 course attended at your training facility in Waterloo, this past Spring.

PMH & PM3 Certification

I recently participated in the OBT3 Challenge Course, and I must say it was money well spent. I found David Kerr very professional and extremely knowledgeable. He is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had, and this includes programs I have taken at a Community College. I would not hesitate to take more courses with David Kerr.

I recently took the Basic Electricity course with Dave Kerr and was very impressed with the training provided. I found the investment of time to be well worth it. I would recommend the course to any HVAC technician looking to enter the service trade, or for someone like myself looking for a refresher on previous training. Dave's knowledge of electrical troubleshooting is impressive and he is able to convey his knowledge in a timely manner with both classroom assignments and hands-on training.

I enrolled in the RV1 course (Dec. '08) under the direction of David Kerr. The classroom/lab was organized, clean, and up to date. There were projects to re-enforce electrical theory as well as equipment to provide hands-on experience. I learned more than I expected and what I did learn expanded the knowledge I already had and wasn't just a set of memorized facts. This, of course, was only made possible by the competency of our instructor, David Kerr. He taught this course with enthusiasm and a depth of knowledge that the class respected. He was prepared, thorough and took the time to help us through individual problems using a "hands-on" approach if necessary. Classes were started on time with every minute meaningful. There was no time wasted. The most important thing we learned was how to think a problem through.

RV1 TSSA Certified Propane Course

The RV2 TSSA Certified Propane Course, held in Kingston, conducted by David Kerr, was delivered in a very professional manner with a systematic approach, covering all topics of safety, codes, regulations and common sense. As Vice President of Operations, Travel-Mor Trailer Sales, I sat in on this course personally; David did an excellent job teaching the course to the technicians in attendance. I am in total agreement with David's statement, "educating technicians pays off for the business owner, the technician and the client. Safety is no accident."

RV2 TSSA Certified Propane Course

The PMH and PM2 courses taught by David Kerr were extremely valuable for the enrolled students whom were all members of the industry. The classes were well organized, informative, and taught in a style which made it easy for the students to learn and excel. David is an excellent professor. He maintained a consistent teaching methodology, using a variety of tools which included interesting movies and video clips, the white board which was used to effectively explain and diagram complex information, the Liquid Fuels Handling Code book and the PMH and PM2 student manuals. David went through the Code book and manuals in detail ensuring to point out pertinent information and facts and figures that should be kept in mind. He also consistently ensured that each student was following along and understood what was being discussed. If anyone was lost or confused, David took the time to provide an easy to understand explanation. David is an incredibly knowledgeable professor, drawing from experience and his many years in the field. He provided many relatable analogies and stories illustrating the importance of safety techniques and following the rules, laws and regulations. David was very approachable, leaving time for questions during class and afterwards. He also completed a thorough review prior to the tests which enabled the students to succeed. I got a lot out of these courses and feel that I am well equipped and prepared for the field work I will be facing in my profession.

A Hybrid Future in Learning

Say the word "Hybrid" and what may come to mind first is an environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient car. However, as the demand for a certified, achieved recognized level of skills and knowledge increases, TS Technical College is discovering the many benefits of hybrid learning, including flexible scheduling and increased understanding by organizations and individuals about the activity in which they are involved.

Several trends are coming together that create a need for on-the-job recognition and understanding, in regards to supporting current and growing green initiatives that tackle climate change. Nationally, the federal government has made these issues a priority, especially in the Oil & Gas Industry, considered strategic for economic and security growth. Concern for the environment is one of the core values of TS Technical College, and was from the moment we opened our doors 12 years ago. Our Hybrid courses are designed to help improve the global competitiveness of business and industry through ensuring that their many workers are prepared.

Talk is one thing, real action is another!
